Services
Provided
Wainuiomata Volunteer Fire Brigade is not the soul emergency response team to
serve the community of Wainuiomata.
Wainuiomata
Bush Fire Force and Wellington Free Ambulance also share the WVFB site.
One of the most valuable resources
Wainuiomata Fire Brigade has is its Fire Police Unit.
Whilst members of the Fire Police are not
active fire fighters their role is just as important. Fire Police
personnel provide a safe working space for crews by keeping
persistent onlookers at a safe distance, provide Traffic Control
and Fire Scene security. Fire scenes can go unnoticed by
motorists and hoses filled with water can be severely damaged by car
tyres. The Wainuiomata Fire Police provides Traffic Control to move
motorists down nearby side streets, removing the risk to Fire Crews
returning to their appliances.
Often a fires cause can not be
determined and will need further investigation by Fire Safety
Officers the following day. By securing the scene and not allowing
persons to enter the property, the contents of the property are
secured and vital evidence can be collated and examined. This allows
Fire Safety Officers to determine the cause of a fire, where the
fire originated and if there are any mitigating circumstances
leading to an unnatural fire spread. Scene preservation is vital for
determining the cause and legality of the fire and assists insurance
personnel in claim cases.
